Well, we didn’t end up doing the fish tacos yet.  My family was clamoring for Wild Rice Soup so that’s wh

at we had first.

Over at organizedchristmas.org they had a gift in jar recipe for today.  I checked around and have some GF gift in a jar links for you.  I haven’t tested them, so you may want to whip up a batch at home before you give them away just to be sure they are tasty-rific.  These are just a few I found.  If you have one that you really like, let me know!  Gifts in a jar can be nice for kids to help assemble, so I would be interested in any GFCF ones you may come across.  As I encounter more gifts in a jar recipes I will post them for you to check out.  There are several drink mix in a jar recipes out there, also.  So, it’s whatever strikes your fancy!

At budget101.com they have these following mixes:

1.Gluten Free Baking Powder

2.Gluten Free Bread Machine Mix

3.GF Chocolate Pudding Mix

4.Gluten-Free Flour Mix

5.Flour Mix #2

6.GF Muffin Mix

7.GF Pizza Dough Mix in a Jar

8.GF Snickerdoodle Cookie Mix

9.Gluten Free Pancake Mix

10.WF Cornbread Mix in a Jar

11.WF Sugar Cookie Mix in a Jar

Some of the above mixes have dairy, so those will have to be altered.  Try replacing dairy milk powder with the potato-based powder Dairy Free.  You will want to be sure to test the recipe after altering as that milk replacement is pretty sweet.

Jambalaya Mix in a Jar

Recipe #105351                 by  riffraff

Here’s an unusual gift idea. After all the cookies and cakes in a jar here’s a good tasting, easy gift giving idea. I put the ingredients in a small jar with instructions tied around the lid with a festive ribbon. I always list the ingredients on the back of the instructions. Cook time is just to make the jars of mix, not the making of the actual jambalaya.

3 gifts

3 cups uncooked long-grain rice

3 tablespoons dried onion flakes

3 tablespoons dried parsley flakes

4 teaspoons beef bouillon granules (be sure GFCF!!)

1 tablespoon minced dried chives

1 tablespoon dried celery flakes

1 1/2 teaspoons pepper

3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1/2 tablespoon garlic powder

3/4 teaspoon dried thyme

In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients.

Divide evenly among three airtight containers (there will be a little over 1 cup in each container).

Store in a dry, cool place for up to 6 months.

HERE’S THE INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE THE JAMBALAYA.

0.In a saucepan bring 2 cups water and 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper to a boil.

0.Stir in the contents of one jar of the dried mix, return to a boil.

0.Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 19 to 20 minutes or until rice is tender.

0.In another saucepan heat 8 ounces of tomato sauce and one pound of fully cooked smoked sausage that has been cut into 1/4 inch slices.

0.Add one pound of medium, peeled, deveined shrimp and cook until shrimp is pink.

0.Combine both pans.

More tomato sauce may be added if mixture is dry.
