Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Hearty Whole Grain Bread Mix

March 17, 2007 by angelaskitchen Leave a Comment

AK canning jar

We tried the Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Hearty Whole Grain Bread Mix last week.  As soon as we opened the package, my son was pleased because the smell reminded him of a rye or pumpernickel bread.  He used to really like those breads, back in the day.  We mixed it up, following the instructions to the letter, and again, it was very easy.

I was pleased to see the different seeds and the nice dark color.  I have missed bread with a lot of substance.  I have been working on some recipes with more fiber and chew, but have not got to the point where I am satisfied with the balance of moisture, chew, and not crumbling.  This bread mix from Bob’s was great in all areas.   Besides being very easy, the bread was moist and flavorful.  It made nice sandwiches, even with a thinner slice of bread and without having to toast it.  It satisfied my desire to have some chew to  my bread without feeling like you had a sandwich of twigs.  All around a really nice bread.

We are planning on picking some of this mix up to have on hand.  It will be a nice change of pace to the regular breads I generally make, besides my big kids thought it was great.  I think I might make some into rolls for Easter (this is super tasty with ham and turkey).  It is easy enough I think my big kids can make it without a ton of supervision.

If you can’t find the Gluten Free Hearty Whole Grain Bread Mix in your area, Bob’s Red Mill sells it from their site.   I really recommend it!
